Lucille Ball honored on what would have been her 100th birthday

Lucille Ball would have celebrated her 100th birthday and her much-loved show "I Love Lucy" reached its 60th anniversary on August 6. 

To honor the comedienne, who died on April 26, 1989, Google search engine installed an interactive doodle on their homepage which displayed seven classic moments from her "I Love Lucy" sitcom. The Hollywood Museum also paid tribute, launching a "Lucille Ball at 100 and I Love Lucy at 60" exhibit, which will run through November 20 and honors Ball's career.

The exhibit features costumes, photographs, letters, scripts and memorabilia. It was unveiled on Thursday and Ball's daughter Lucie Arnaz attended the opening-night gala.

"I think of her as mom most of the time," Arnaz told the Associated Press at the event. "Then I switch... and try to see her as the rest of the world does. It's almost too big."

Several networks including The Hallmark Channel and Turner Classic Movies have honored the actress over the weekend, airing movies and "I Love Lucy" marathons.

Since her death in 1989, Ball has been honored with a postage stamp, was named the "Greatest TV Star of All Time" by TV Guide and received a "Legacy of Laughter" award at the 2007 TV Land Awards. She was also inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.

Ball was married to Dezi Arnaz for some 20 years and they portrayed a married couple on "I Love Lucy" during its run between 1951 and 1957. The actor, who played Cuban musician Ricky Ricardo, died in 1986 at age 69. Ball married stand-up comic Gary Morton in 1961.
