Candice Bergen, known for her roles in the shows "Murphy Brown," "Boston Legal" and most recently, "House M.D.," has revealed that she did suffer a 2006 stroke, an ailment she had denied at the time.
Reports about the health scare surfaced online in September of that year. TMZ reported that her publicist said that Bergen was hospitalized for several days after suffering from high blood pressure. The actress, who is now 65, confirmed to New York Magazine in a recent interview that she did suffer a minor stroke in the fall of 2006, the year she played Shirley Schmidt on the ABC series "Boston Legal," and explained why she denied it happened.
"I just don't want it to be a liability," she told the magazine, adding that she missed two weeks of shooting on the legal sitcom. She said that nowadays, her memory is "not quite the same."
Bergen is currently starring in a Broadway revival of Gore Vidal's play "The Best Man." She portrays Alice Russell, the neglected wife of a politician, and is set to perform in the show until the beginning of July. It also stars James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, Eric McCormack, Angela Lansbury, Kerry Butler and Michael McKean.
