Bubble shows are called that because things can really go either way -- for"Scandal," it meant a Season 2 renewal today, but for "GCB" and a handful of others, it means cancellation.
ABC has officially canceled "GCB," it's Texas-centric freshman dramedy starring Annie Potts, Kristin Chenoweth and Leslie Bibb, along with three other dramas that were on major life support.
If you were holding out hope for lofty period-spy drama "Pan Am" or the "Paranormal Activity"-esque thriller "The River," hope is lost -- both shows join Ashley Judd's globe-trotting "Missing" (which was set up to be a one-season venture initially anyway) on the chopping block.
But ABC has saved a few fan-favorite shows: Shonda Rhimes' other ABC series "Private Practice" -- which moved from the post-"Grey's Anatomy" timeslot to Tuesdays when "Scandal" premiered -- will get a sixth season; Dana Delany's medical examiner drama "Body of Proof" has been given a third season; quirky freshman comedy "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23," starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker and James Van Der Beek, is getting a second season; and Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" has also received a second season.
This news comes after ABC has already renewed dramas "Grey's Anatomy," "Once Upon a Time," "Revenge," "Castle" and "Scandal," as well as comedies "Happy Endings," "Modern Family," "Suburgatory" and "The Middle," and some reality TV fare like "Shark Tank and "The Bachelor."
