Ashton Kutcher is battling with the DMV, and it's not over long lines and cranky workers. According to The Wrap,Kutcher's company, Katalyst Media, is suing California's Department of Motor Vehicles.
The lawsuit is over claims the DMV broke contract by backing out of a reality show that would follow its employees. Katalyst and production company Soda and Pop, Inc. claim they are owed $1.44 million in damages.
Katalyst claims to have negotiated a reality show with the DMV in 2010. The proposed show was a half-hour series featuring the employees and DMV visitors. The series was picked up by TruTV and had an initial order of four episodes -- and up to six seasons -- but then the DMV "abruptly" pulled out "without justifiable excuse," according to the suit.
At the time TruTV announced the series, Katalyst co-founder and CEO Jason Goldberg said, "We've all spent time at the DMV, but few people know what it’s like to work for the DMV. 'California DMV: Field Offices' promise to be a glimpse at what DMV workers experience, from strange to hilarious."
According to the suit, the deputy director of the DMV said they were not longer interested in being a part of the series and didn't consider it in the government agency's "best interests."
