Penny Marshall has become the victim of a pretty big scam.
The director and Los Angeles Lakers fan is reportedly out more than $5,000 after being deceived by someone who claimed to be basketball player Lamar Odom's assistant.
"Lamar doesn't know this person at all," says the source.
It all started last month when, reported TMZ, a man began chatting with Marshall at a Lakers game after introducing himself as Odom's assistant. He subsequently gave her what he said was Odom's telephone number.
Over the next several days, the faux assistant pretended to be Odom and began chatting with Marshall via text messaging, eventually asking her to loan his assistant some money.
Not surprisingly, the texts stopped coming the moment she sent the cash.
Sensing something was rotten in L.A., Marshall reportedly filed a police report.
