Jay Leno came out swinging in his first monologue after the news broke that the"Tonight Show" was hit with staff cuts and Leno was forced to take a pay cut. Leno cracked several jokes about the situation, and seemed to lay most of the blame for it on NBC's parent company Comcast.
"We’ve consistently been number one in the ratings and, if you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon," he quipped.
Leno can joke all he wants, but The LA Times notes he bears some responsibility for the show's fiscal problems. Leno was still producing "The Tonight Show" on the larger budget he'd been granted for his ill-fated foray into prime time with "The Jay Leno Show."
Still, fans were certainly enjoying Leno's ability to poke fun at the behind-the-scenes drama unfolding on his show.
