Everybody loved Doris. Ray Romano and more of Doris Roberts’ former costars remembered her on Monday, April 18, after learning of her death at the age of 90. The Everybody Loves Raymond actress’ rep confirmed to Us Weekly on Monday that Roberts died in her sleep on Sunday, April 17.
The Emmy-winning actress’ career spanned more than six decades, beginning with her role in 1952 on TV series Studio One. Roberts, who is best known for portraying helicopter mom Marie Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, scored four Emmy awards for her work on the CBS series.
“Doris Roberts
had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped,” Romano,
who played her son on the long-running sitcom that went off the air in
2005, told Us Weekly in a statement on Monday. “Whether working
professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and
mentoring a young, green comic trying to make it as an actor, she did it
all with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her
dearly.”
