The actress Jennifer Grey's underwent surgery last week to repair a disc in her back that she ruptured on the first night of the "DWTS" two-night finale.
According to People.com, Dr. Robert S. Bray Jr. performed the operation at the D.I.S.C. Sports and Spine Center in Marina del Rey, Calif., where he removed "a huge fragment" from Grey's back.
"I'm still recovering at home. I have to rest a bit more, but I feel great – completely pain free," Grey, 50, told the mag.
The "Dirty Dancing" actress' latest procedure marks her fourth neck surgery this year, according to ABC News. One of the surgeries involved a plate inserted in her neck, while the other surgeries were to remove a cancerous thyroid. Following a serious car accident in 1987, Grey suffered a severe neck injury that has resulted in chronic pain ever since.
On the first night of the "DWTS" finale Nov. 21, Grey began to feel pain in her lower back. She was "in tears" and unable to move the next morning, Bray told People. An MRI revealed she had a ruptured disc "greater than one centimeter."
Adamant to compete in the final round of the ABC dance competition show, Grey received epidural steroid injections, which helped alleviate the pain. She was given the green light from her doctor to dance, resulting in her and dance partner Derek Hough taking home the season 11 title.
Grey isn't the only celebrity who has become a casualty to "DWTS." Kelly Osbourne, who competed during the ninth season, said last week that she will have intense surgery on both feet after her stint on the show worsened an existing problem.
